Editorial Policy & Code of Ethics
Our unwavering commitment to independent, courageous, accurate, and fair journalism serving the public interest across Sedam, Kalaburagi, and Karnataka.
The Maina Sedam News Commitment
Maina Sedam News operates under the core principle that public trust is the cornerstone of credible journalism. Founded with a mission to amplify grassroots community voices in Sedam and the Kalyan Karnataka region, our journalism is strictly independent, non-partisan, public-oriented, and bound by the highest professional and ethical standards.
1. Editorial Independence & Ownership Separation
Our editorial decisions are made independently by our professional editorial team under the direction of Founder & Editor-in-Chief Mahipal Reddy.
- Zero Commercial or Political Interference: Advertisers, sponsors, political figures, government agencies, or commercial interests have no influence on our reporting, story selection, or editorial viewpoints.
- Clear Separation of News & Advertisements: Any paid content, advertorials, or sponsored features are explicitly and conspicuously labeled with indicators such as "Sponsored", "Advertisement", or "Commercial Feature".
- Freedom from Partisanship: We maintain strict neutrality towards political parties, religious groups, and commercial organizations.
2. Accuracy, Sourcing & Corroboration
Factual accuracy is non-negotiable. Every piece of news published in our digital newspaper and web portal undergoes rigorous editorial validation.
Primary Sources First
We prioritize direct eyewitness testimonies, official records, signed documentation, and on-ground reporting from our local Sedam correspondents.
Multi-Source Verification
Critical, controversial, or breaking claims require corroboration from at least two independent, verified sources before publication.
Anonymous Sources Protocol
Source confidentiality is granted only when the informant faces real risk of retribution and the information is of overwhelming public interest. The source identity must be disclosed to the Editor.
Right of Reply
Individuals or institutions subject to criticism or allegations are given reasonable time and fair opportunity to present their perspective prior to publication.
3. Fairness, Diversity & Anti-Sensationalism
We strive for balance, context, and nuance rather than sensational clickbait.
- Tone & Language: Headlines must reflect the content accurately without exaggeration, panic-inducing phrasing, or defamatory remarks.
- Diversity & Inclusivity: We provide equal voice to rural communities, farmers, workers, marginalized sections, women, and youth across our region.
- Hate Speech & Communal Sensitivity: Maina Sedam News strictly prohibits hate speech, communal stereotyping, inflammatory religious remarks, and content inciting violence.
4. Protection of Vulnerable Individuals & Sensitive Reporting
We adhere strictly to the statutory laws of India, the Press Council of India Norms of Journalistic Conduct, and international ethical guidelines:
• Minors & Children: The identity, photograph, or school details of children involved in criminal, sexual abuse, or traumatic incidents are never disclosed (POCSO Act & Juvenile Justice Act compliance).
• Survivors of Sexual Assault: In strict compliance with Indian legal statutes (Section 228A IPC / Section 72 BNS), the identity of sexual offense survivors is never published.
• Suicide & Mental Health: Reporting on suicide avoids sensationalism, explicit descriptions of methods, or suicide notes, and always provides official helpline support information.
5. Staff Conduct & Conflict of Interest
All reporters, editors, and photographers associated with Maina Sedam News are bound by our integrity pledge:
- No editorial staff member may accept cash, gifts, favors, or hospitality intended to influence coverage.
- Journalists must declare any personal, business, or political affiliations that could present a perceived conflict of interest.
- Reporters are strictly prohibited from engaging in extortion, blackmail, or unethical media practices.
6. Editorial Leadership & Grievance Redressal
The Editor-in-Chief oversees adherence to this policy and retains ultimate responsibility for published content. Readers with concerns, ethical complaints, or feedback can directly reach our editorial desk.
